Glacier: A Kitchen Food Cleaner Inspired by Nature

From the observation that individuals who prioritize food cleanliness also value a high quality of life, Xu Chen and Rong Zhang created Glacier to visually represent extreme purity. The machine's main body features abstract iceberg polygons, metaphorizing the cold, clean, and clear glacier. This design choice taps into users' subconsciousness, evoking a sense of stainlessness and facilitating their imagination for a quality life.

One of the unique properties of Glacier is its utilization of large-scale instruction lights and abstract polygons to create a picture of a natural glacier. This design approach not only enhances the machine's overall attractiveness but also conveys a message of purity and steadiness. Additionally, the use of a large area of transparent PC material adds rich layering to the machine body, further enhancing its visual appeal.

Glacier is equipped with a hydroxyl water ion generator that effectively degrades harmful substances in food. The machine's control panel, located on the front side, features buttons indicating different food types such as meat, fruits, and vegetables. Users simply need to place the food into the machine and touch the corresponding button to initiate the cleaning process. Glacier's user-friendly interface ensures easy operation and convenience.

Glacier is made using ABS and PC injection modeling technology. The design is available in black or white, with dimensions measuring 305mm x 410mm x 285mm. The project, which began in August 2020 in Beijing and concluded in December 2020 in Shenzhen, China, overcame the challenge of conveying a neat metaphor for cleanliness through minimalist shapes.

Recognized for its ingenuity and contribution to quality of life improvements, Glacier was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Bakeware, Tableware, Drinkware, and Cookware Design category in 2021. This prestigious accolade is bestowed upon outstanding designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills, incorporating best practices in art, science, design, and technology.
